Recently heard that the purpose of the Laad was like a mark used similar to the yellow mark for Jews by Nazis.
When one of the many muslim invaders invaded Kashmir and forcibly converted the local population to islam, some hindus never gave up their faith.
The Laad was then used to identify Hindus and make them a target of ridicule as they would be walking around.
A sad episode in history that was repeated in a similar form by Nazis.Sheetal wrote this 5 years ago
Laad was/is a fold of the cloth on a long Pheran. I am not sure of the purpose but it seems to be common in younger kids who would be given a Pheran a few sizes long so that it could last a few winters Wandeh (is Winter)Amrit wrote this 12 years ago
