Prior to gas and kerosene stoves, every house had a wood burning stove that was used for cooking. It had 2 to 4 holes on top to keep your cooking pots and the wood would be inserted from the front. It would open up in a chimney to let the smoke out. It used to be cleaned with water and clay mixture. That process was called LivunAshwani wrote this 12 years ago
